Literature Text

After a few weeks, life started to return to normal. Roy was released on medical leave, and I began my own work. Edward and Al left for another job. So was well and I had magically started a diary. It had a hard cover, which was Tardis blue, and a little locket to close it. It was nothing special. No, it didn't hold any juicy, gossip stories either.

Well today was different from any other day; yet I couldn't quite put my finger on it. Everyone was at the office, and my uniform looked fine. So what was bothering me so much? It felt as if there was something in the corner of my eye that I couldn't see. But when I turned there was nothing, simply a plain wall was there. As it neared the end of the day, I just gave up on that nagging feeling.

Havoc walked up me with his signature crooked smile. I finished signing some random document that I really hadn't bothered to read. I looked up at him with curious eyes. He cleared his throat and said, "Hey _________! Do you want to go drinking with all of us? Roy will be there."

My ears perked up and I suddenly waited to go. I thought a moment more, yet there was no thinking about it. I was going to go drinking with the guys. I simply said "Yes." Havoc and the others smiled.

Less than an hour later, Havoc, Breda, Falman, Fuery, Roy and I were all sitting in a pub. Fuery was already swaying in his seat. I wasn't far behind him. Roy and Havoc seemed utterly untouched by the large amount of alcohol they had just consumed. The sides of my vision began to blur, that was when I knew I was drunk. This was the first time I had ever drunk alcohol; and I'm still underage.

Time seemed to sway in front of me, before I knew it the only people in the pub were Havoc, the Bartender and me. I stumbled down from my stool, and drunkenly stumbled to the door. Havoc didn't follow. I don't know where I was stumbling to, but I could hear Havoc's soft footsteps behind me. I turned right, this lead me to a pitch black alley. There was a rumbling from a garbage can, yet I wasn't scared.

Then a hand reached out for me and put a gag over my mouth. The sweet smell of Roses filled my nose, and then everything faded to black.

I awoke to the sounds of a chainsaw. My ____ eyes flutter open quickly. I stared the black walls, and then my eyes turned square in front of me. There he was. The man I hated the most. My father.

No words were said, but there was nothing to say. I hated him and i know the feeling was mutual. The rumbling of the chainsaw echoed through the room, I squeezed my eyes shut. I knew what he planned, and it wasn't going to end well for me. I could feel the air around me change before I felt the pain.

I could feel the harsh pain of the chainsaw eating at the skin of my right shoulder. I screamed. I could feel each muscle being torn apart. Tears fell down my face like a waterfall. I knew that at any time, my arm would fall off when he cut through the bone. My vision grew hazy and i felt like I would faint.

Suddenly the chainsaw turned off. My father cursed under he breath and violently pulled the chainsaw out of my shoulder. My head fell forward as I panted heavily against the pain. My father disappeared from the room.

I don't know how much time had passed. All I knew was my gash had gotten infected. Maggots feed on the open flesh and dug even further inside. Everything kept swaying and fading into black. I pleaded with myself to stay awake. Yet, my whole body yearned to sleep. Deep down, I knew I wasn't going to wake up if I fell asleep; and I was OK with that.

I closed my eyes and drifted into the black abyss. It was peace and quiet. Images filled my head. I saw a younger me playing with my friends, and me crying at my mom's funeral. Lastly, I saw Edward, Al, Roy, and I.  We were all laughing and smiling together. I remember that day perfectly. It was Roy's birthday and before the fire accident. I had attempted to bake Roy a cake, but instead it had exploded. I had cried, but Roy simply laughed and we all played games the whole night. It had been one of my happiest moments. I longed for the chance to see them again.

A blinding light flashed from behind me. I used my hands to cover my eyes, yet someone took my hands away from my face. I looked to see Havoc, but I was dead..... Right?

~Havoc's POV~

When I saw _____ sitting in the middle of that dirty old room, I was overjoyed. That was until I saw her right shoulder. There was an extremely deep gash, and maggots were living in it. It had been seven days of nonstop searching. As I approached her, I couldn't see the rise and fall of her chest. I quickly removed the restrained and gently picked up her lifeless body. It was still warm. I ran out of the room, and through the maze of the sewers. Armstrong was patiently waiting at the entrance, then she could be taken to the hospital. Ahead of me was Armstrong. He turned to our direction and went wide eyed. He immediately started barking orders and _____ was lifted above ground. An Ambulance rushed her away to the military hospital.

I slowly dragged my feet, I felt like I had let her down. Her death is my fault. I shouldn't have allowed her to walk alone. Before I knew it, I went sitting in the small hospital waiting room. A skinny, little nurse walked up me.

"Major Havoc, I'm afraid we have bad news and some good news. We were able to safely remove the infection from her arm.  But we found that the maggots had borrowed deeper into the arm. We had to amputate her arm because the maggot caused irreversible muscle damage in the whole arm. Good news is she is alive. Right now we have her in a medical coma, so her pain will be reduced."

I stood there utterly astonished. No words could form right in my head. She simply gripped my hand and guided me back to ______'s room. There she was. A halo of _____ hair lay on the pillow. Tears began to form in my eyes. She looked so young and helpless. For the first time in my life, I was actually in love. In the short time I had gotten to know her, I felt like I had to know more. She was like the sun and the moon to me. I needed her.

I gently held her pale left hand. Her hand was so warm and alive, something I feared she could easily lose. Right then and there I decided that no matter what happened I would protect her with my whole being.
